It all starts when Alfons Niederwieser establishes Niederwieser KG – a promising small business selling machinery for the food industry in the area of Bolzano, in Italy’s northernmost region.
Alfons’ son Manfred takes over management, contributing fresh new ideas. The company starts importing new vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging machines from Germany – equipment still largely unknown in Italy. He also secures exclusive distribution rights for Tetra Laval Food (Tiromat) within the Italian market.
Alcom GmbH – a company with headquarters in Modena specializing in printed and laminated food packaging – is established. Despite facing strong competition, Alcom soon acquires considerable market shares by perfecting their converting services – processing plastic films into vacuum pouches for MAP.
Facing procurement challenges in Italy, the Niederwieser family finds an out-of-the-box solution: creating their own supplier. Teaming up with two partners, they co-found VF Verpackungen GmbH, a company with headquarters in Kempten (Germany), thus securing the perfect supplier for their requirements. The Kempten site focuses on the very origin of packaging: developing flexible films for the food industry by extruding resin. Meanwhile, Niederwieser KG continues building solid business relationships within the meat industry.
The decades-long partnership between Niederwieser KG and Alcom GmbH reaches a turning point as the two merge into Niederwieser AG. The Laives facility focuses on food processing, while the Campogalliano site specializes in food packaging. The two customer portfolios are consolidated, and the two business areas, while remaining autonomous, intertwine to cover the entire spectrum of the food industry. Meanwhile, the company continues investing: the Modena site is equipped with a second printing machine, and a new production facility is built in via Zamboni 8.
The Niederwieser family acquires 100% of the shares in VF Verpackungen GmbH, expanding the family business into the Niederwieser Group and investing significantly in facilities and further development in the following years. Niederwieser becomes a complete solution provider.
Company shares are passed on to the next generation: with Hannes and Sabine Niederwieser now at the helm, a new strategy and group-wide rebranding mark the beginning of a fresh chapter.
The Group continues evolving and strengthening its international presence: VF Verpackungen becomes Niederwieser GmbH, and the new Niederwieser Iberica sales office is founded.
